Is there anyone out there?

An entry with shoes, lists and lust. How exciting!

A few things have been on my mind. So..here goes.

Mariana's To Do List:

*Car oil change
*Spanish/Chinese: register, buy textbooks, call Penn about credit transfer
*Finish valuations book
*Outline 10 pg. paper on HK
*Buy: red bag, running stuff, veet, paint kit
*Sun employment contract
*Confirm ice rink reservation for Winter Whartonland (+ think of more ideas)
*Goldman/resume
*Visit babulya

And of course my brand new List of Things To Do When Bored:

*Sort through email

*Paint

*Library/shoreline (read valuations!)

*Afternoon tea downtown/visit Kate at work

*Walk the dog

*Tan

*Type up Goldman/alumni forum notes

*Soccer/Frisbee with the sis

*Do situps while watching tv

*Rock-climbing

*Write Freddy a letter (long lost german pen-pal)

*Mitchell park: tennis/read magazines at the library

*Brainstorm Wharton Council events

*Upload HK photos

*Entrepreneurial ideas

*Play piano, compose music
*See To Do List!

Unluckily for me I start full-time work at Sun next Monday, so these lists won't be as handy as I thought. Soo I'm working 9 am-6 pm daily, gym time will be during lunch, then there's Spanish 7-9 on Mondays, Chinese 6-9 pm Tues/Wed/Thurs, and I'm still hoping to help at the start-up and do some company valuations on the side. As well as have a life. On the side. You know.

What have I been up to? (Besides plotting to take over the world...) New obsession:

  Franco Sarto Encore

Franco Sarto! Those are mine.

 ...I want!

Other than that, sometimes I think, and I have some thoughts.

What comes first, the music or the words?

Can a guy and a girl commit to dating, but hook-up with other people? Maybe if there are no emotional strings attatched then it's ok. Or is self-denial a sacrifice relationships require? Can two people both get pleasure without either ever getting attatched?

How come you can have the best chemistry with the one who treats you worst of all?

I'm waiting for my sunburns to fade so I can go make more. :) Summer has been going so great, it's pretty much been perfect. I hope I get sick of it by the time it's September so I'm ready to go back to school!

Wow, no entry since August!

I think it's more that I had absolutely no time and less that I'm over xangaing. So let's try a little experiment... I'm sure everyone has moved on to bigger and better things (facebook) but maybe I'll write on here this summer. I like that xanga is still somewhat private (esp. now that everyone's gone..), like if I write something it won't be read by my 500 friends. Also I just really miss writing, since after taking one semester of it I'm pretty much done with english and anything related at Penn for life. No more journals, reports or papers- it's kind of sad! Luckily this will be replaced by my oh so exciting fall classes: finance, accounting, marketing, statistics. No worries tho, I also squeezed in a russian lit course on madness!

Synopsis of August till now: Philly, NY, Penn, lots more NY, snow, extreme cold, Cal for spring break, Spring Fling aka trashed for a week, finals, owned by the Wharton curve, move-out, Hong Kong,..home! College is completely crazy and amazing and I'm not going to even try to put it into words.

Synopsis of this summer:

-Spent 2 weeks in HK on a WIP (Wharton International Program) (or is it We Incessantly Party)
-Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Ashland, July 3-8... and this year my awesome friend Nick from Penn is coming down from Seattle to join us so i am super super excited!
-Learning Chinese and Spanish

Oh yes and work. Still figuring that one out haha. Probably I'll be doing part-time part-time at a startup called Doostang and doing company valuations for this guy at this ibank. He told me to read this 600-page book with really scary acronyms (NOPLAT: net operating profits less adjusted taxes) and I wrote him an email and mentioned I was almost done (actually I'm on like page 50) and he replied with a wonderful 24-pg report on stuff in the book for me to read so thats absolutely great. On thurs I said I'd get halfway through but I ended up spending an hour on like 16 pages. I'm getting serious about this book-reading business now: as soon as I finish it, I will reward myself with a new paint kit! Not till I'm done though.

Besides superfluous reading, I have a ten page paper on Hong Kong to look forward to. And I am only writing this for my own records.. so I don't forget to do it by Sept. 5!

Ok that's all I've got for my first entry in 9 months. Kind of an anticlimactic xanga reunion. But I have nothing better to say! Oh, in light of my interest in entrepreneurship and lack of avenues to be creative anymore, I was contemplating starting a thing where I write down an entrepreneurial idea every day of my life (no matter how bad it is) so I might start doing that at some point and maybe it will be public at some point.

If anyone is still alive and wants to organize or participate in a soccer or frisbee game sometime, I am definitely down for that!

And now I will attempt to force myself into doing something productive.

college.

college!

Friday, June 30, 2006

I haven't seen the light of day at 8:00 on a friday since banana hired me in may! I was on call and they said they I had to come in at 5:00 p.m., but then they called back and said they didn't need me! I'm freeeee!!

I keep searching for justification not to go to Stanford every day, as I walk upon the beautiful warm campus and see the pretty buildings and palm trees on my way to work. Well after sorting through a batch of militarized interstate disputes today and walking to my car, I think I found the answer.

My goal in life is to gather as many diverse, obscure experiences of all kinds as possible.

I've spent almost every summer in some facet of the campus, whether I was having a blast at stanford sports camp, visiting my brother's dorm, getting wasted at a frat party, constructing a remote-controlled three-meter wingspan gliding pterosaur replica, entering names into spreadsheets for the aero/astro people or researching political science (this summer yay!).

Soo I could go to this amazing school and have a great time. There would definitely be new adventures to undertake. Or I could fly across the country, freeze to death in the winter, learn my way around philly and party in new york! Yess I will have to haul all my things back and forth, do my own laundry and take care of myself when I'm sick. But either way it's a win situation. And going east is definitely a very different experience to add to my life resume.

End of epiphany.  I'm going out!
